Other Tests

What other tests are available?

In addition to bulk tank milk testing, we offer other diagnostic tests that could help you better understand and detect Salmonella Dublin in your herd. Combining testing methods increases the ability to detect S. Dublin on farm, gives you greater confidence that negative results mean your farm is not affected, and allows for identification of S. Dublin individuals within the herd.

Blood Testing

You can submit blood samples of young stock (3 to 6 months of age preferably) to detect antibodies of S. Dublin in your herd. The blood test is similar to the bulk tank milk test.

Post Mortem and Other Tests

Post-mortem include evaluation of all tissues and bacterial culture. Liver and lung samples are preferred for tissue samples for testing. The advantage of participating in this testing is that you can determine if S. Dublin is causing disease or death in your herd and we can sequence any S. Dublin that we find to help you figure out where it came from.

Please refer to the AHC services and fee schedule for all diagnostic tests and services and instructions on how to submit samples to the laboratory, or email sdublin@gov.bc.ca if you have questions.
